Ten-minute video on Van Gogh's early life before he began painting at age 27.
Keep Up Your Love of Nature
Van Gogh failed as a missionary, but he painted in a way no one had seen before. "Read about art, especially art magazines," said Van Gogh in a letter to his brother, Theo Vat. "Do a lot of walking, and keep up your love of nature, for that is the right way to understand art. It teaches us to see."
From a youth of gloom, chill and sterility, Van Gogh's art became renowned undulations of paint, and waves upon waves of color stretched across a canvas plane. Full of emotion and spirit, his work demands to be seen in person because of its sheer power. Van Gogh was a simple painter, and a master ahead of his time.
A Shoot for Love original, images and quotes sourced from a huge collection of Van Gogh's early sketches, and original letters to his brother Theo Vat from the Vincent Van Gogh Gallery.
