Evolutions are always layered
I took a test shot portrait of Brynlee, just to setup the lights. Nothing too special. The simple casual expression was perfectly neutral and I knew right off that I wanted to make something more... evolved. What follows is a visual step-by-step look at the layers I used to create this image.
First is the crop, then I mirrored the right side of the image onto the left, then some healing, then dodging and burning, then a little perspective shift with the addition of colors. Layer after layer of colors and sketches I made by hand with my Wacom Intuous 4. From each and every line above her eye to the swirls on her cheeks was made by meticulous sketching on layers with varying modes. Video Walk through of the original PSD files, included for members for educational use only. I used Screenflow to record the walkthrough.
